Who are we?

Edward Finch Partnership comprises Mark Smith and Nick Gamston, Chartered Building Surveyors.

The partnership was formed in 2000 by Nick and Mark, and became a Limited Company in 2002.

Nick Gamston BSc MRICS

Nick is a Chartered Building Surveyor with wide experience in general building surveying and the management of projects within the private and public sectors. Nick established the Midlands office of The Edward Finch Partnership with Mark Smith in July 2000, having been an Area Building Surveyor at P & O Properties for the previous 7 years. Previous employers include DTZ, Sandwell Council, Birmingham City Council and Wolverhampton Council.

Nick has particular experience in the management, design and administration of refurbishment, general repair works and fit out projects, as well as professional matters including building surveys, dilapidations, party walls and  CDM co-ordination. He has been involved in all aspects of being a director in a niche building surveying private practice.

Mark Smith BSc (Hons) MRICS MA

Mark commenced his career in local government in 1978, gaining his Building Technology degree in 1983 and Chartered Building Surveyor status in 1986 before joining Bernard Thorpe in Birmingham in 1989. After establishing Building Consultancy in Birmingham for Erdman Lewis and time with Graham E Thompson, Mark left in 2000 to establish Edward Finch with Nick.

He has a keen interest in building performance and defects and attained an MA in Historic Environment Conservation in 2009. Mark can offer a range of expertise in building and condition surveys, party walls, dilapidations, and the design and management of refurbishment and new build projects. He also acts as an expert in building disputes and negligence cases.
